System Terminology
The Dromelwyn system uses specific terms consistently across its interface and documentation. This glossary defines those terms to help new users understand what they mean and how they relate to the system's structure.
These definitions apply specifically to the Dromelwyn system. Where a term also has a wider meaning in general usage, the definition here reflects how it is used within this context. Familiarity with these terms before reviewing the overview or functions pages can make those pages easier to follow.
A – C
Category
A defined grouping within the system's classification structure. Categories collect items that share a common characteristic or type. Each category has a name, a description, and a defined relationship to adjacent categories. Categories are not arbitrary groupings; they reflect deliberate decisions by the operator about how the system's information is most usefully divided.
Classification
The process by which information is assigned to a category within the system. Classification is carried out by the operator's team and is not performed in real time by the system itself. When new information is added to the system, it goes through a classification step before it becomes visible within the review interface. Classification determines where an item appears in the system and which other items it is related to.
Content Map
The internal model that describes how the system's categories are connected to one another. The content map is not a visual element that users interact with directly; it is the structural logic that governs how navigation between categories works. A well-formed content map means that moving from one area of the system to an adjacent area is predictable and consistent.
E – I
Enquiry
A formally submitted message from a user to the Dromelwyn support team. Enquiries are submitted through the contact form on the Connect page. They are used to request access to system areas, ask questions about available information, or describe a specific requirement that the publicly available documentation does not address. An enquiry is not the same as an automated query; it requires a response composed by a team member.
Filter
A parameter applied to the classification view to reduce the number of visible items. Filters narrow the display to items matching specified attributes without permanently removing other items from the system. Multiple filters can be applied simultaneously. Clearing a filter restores the full set of items that were visible before the filter was applied.
Item
A single unit of classified information within the system. Each item belongs to at least one category and carries a set of attributes that describe it. Items are the entities that users see in the classification view and examine in detail through the item inspection function. The term does not refer to external content or documents; it refers specifically to content that has been classified and stored within the system.
N – R
Navigation Hierarchy
The structured arrangement of the system's categories from broader groupings to more specific ones. The navigation hierarchy determines the order in which categories are displayed and how users move between them. A higher position in the hierarchy typically indicates a broader category; lower positions indicate more specific subsets. Not all categories are organised in a strict tree structure; some have lateral relationships as well as hierarchical ones.
Reference Area
The section of the system that contains descriptive and explanatory information about the system itself — its categories, terminology, and scope. The reference area is intended to be consulted before exploring classified content. It does not contain classified items; it contains information about how the system is structured and how to use it effectively.
Review Panel
The interface element that displays detailed information about a selected item. When a user opens an item from the classification view, the review panel presents all available attributes for that item in a structured format. The review panel is read-only; it does not allow editing, annotating, or modifying the displayed information.
S – Z
Scope
The defined boundary of what the system covers. The scope determines which categories exist, which items belong to the system, and which areas of information have been classified. Content outside the system's scope cannot be found within it, and the system does not attempt to address information beyond its defined boundaries. The scope is set by the operator and may change over time as the system is updated.
Structured Review
The process of examining classified information in an organised and methodical way using the system's tools. Structured review differs from unguided searching in that the system's classification and navigation tools provide a consistent framework for moving through content. The term does not imply that users must follow a fixed sequence; it refers to the use of the system's organisational structure to guide the review process.
Support Team
The team at Dromelwyn Systems Ltd that receives and responds to enquiries submitted through the Connect page. The support team reviews each enquiry individually and composes responses based on available information and the specific content of the request. The support team does not process automated responses and does not operate as a real-time helpline. Contact via the enquiry form or by email to [email protected].
